Preserving History: Art, Community, and Cultural Resistance

Voice-NCEA is proud to support the vital restoration and preservation of local community spaces. We are currently channeling our efforts toward the building restoration of The Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). Their historic international headquarters is located right here at 1609-11 Cecil B. Moore Ave in North Philadelphia.

Why This Space Matters

Founded on a legacy of empowerment, the UNIA-ACL International Headquarters stands as a crucial monument of Black history, resilience, and pride. Today, this landmark sits in a heavily gentrified corridor of North Philadelphia. As universities and private developers aggressively acquire neighborhood land, historic Black and Indigenous cultural spaces face literal erasure.

By restoring this physical building, we are not just fixing walls—we are protecting the architectural and cultural heartbeat of our community from displacement.

How You Can Support

Art is a reflection of history, and protecting this space ensures future generations can see theirs. You can stand with Voice-NCEA and the UNIA-ACL Thomas W. Harvey Division #121 in this fight for preservation:
